Nagarjuna and the festival of Sankranthi share a connection in “Naa Saami Ranga,” a collaboration with choreographer-turned-director Vijay Binni, remaking the Malayalam period action drama “Porinju Mariam Jose.” Let’s delve into what this film has to offer.
Plot:-
Kishtayya (Nagarjuna), an orphan, becomes a brother to Anji (Allari Naresh). He becomes a trusted aide to village head Peddayya (Nasser). Kishtayya and his childhood love Varalu (Ashika Ranganath) face separation but remain single. Peddayya’s sons, envious of Kishtayya’s dominance, seek to eliminate him. The storyline revolves around Kishtayya’s fight against all odds for friendship, love, and revenge.
Performances:-
Nagarjuna shines as Kishtayya, delivering a one-man show. Allari Naresh as Anji and Raj Tarun as Bhaskar provide excellent support. Allari Naresh stands out in emotional scenes, while Ashika Ranganath adds glamour and emotion to her character. The ensemble cast performs well, but Nassar’s role lacks impact, and Shabeer Kallarakkal’s portrayal of the villain Das disappoints.
Technicalities:-
The film, a remake with minor changes, incorporates nativity elements. MM Keeravani’s songs and their picturization engage the audience. However, the placement of “Seesa Mootha Ippu” feels odd and disrupts the flow. “Ethukellipovalanipistunde” in the first half is a visual treat, but the narration lacks grip, leaving room for editing.
Thumbs Up:
– Nagarjuna and Allari Naresh’s performances
– Engaging songs and action sequences
**Thumbs Down:**
– Thin conflict and weak villains
– Flat narration with no twists
– Predictable scenes
Analysis:-
“Naa Saami Ranga” is a straightforward rural action drama with limited twists. The film lacks a strong conflict, and some scenes add no value to the story. Director Vijay Binni plays to Nagarjuna’s strengths, maintaining the essence of the original. Well-picturized songs and nicely choreographed action scenes are the film’s highlights.
While the film takes time to establish characters, the first half’s comedy could have been improved. The interval point picks up momentum, with action scenes capturing audience interest. The early second half follows a formulaic narration, but the film regains momentum with a major twist. The climax, though lacking twists, concludes on a decent note. Despite pressure, debutante director Vijay Binni delivers a quality film with an ensemble cast.
Verdict: Sankranthi Saami Ranga,
**Rating:** 2.75/5
